Environmentally responsible energy
By harnessing the power of sunlight, we convert it into usable electricity through photovoltaic cells (PV). Typically made of silicon, PVs are the building blocks of solar panels. When sunlight strikes these cells, photons knock electrons loose from atoms within the semiconductor material, creating an electric current. Since the electric current produced by the PV cells is in direct current form, it is then converted into alternating current (AC) electricity—the type of electricity used in homes and businesses — through an inverter. The AC electricity can be used immediately by connected devices or fed into the electrical grid for distribution. In grid-tied systems, excess electricity generated during sunny periods can be sold back to the grid.
